We are supplying complete iPod Touch AAC packages that include the SoundPod speaker system and a copy of The Grid 2. Our iPad and iPod Touch packages include hardware and software support.

During these days we will be able to work with 8-10 students or patients and explore a wide range of pre-AAC and AAC resources.

We will set up a classroom system with a Tobii PCEye and Ergo all-in-one PC with a selection of resources aimed at introducing eye controlled activities including:

  • Eye gaze sensory experiences
  • Eye gaming/turn taking with existing software in school (IT titles for example)
  • Eyetracking individuals to help ascertain undiscovered cognitive abilities
  • Gaze Evaluator – revealing the eye movements and response times of individual students/patients
  • AAC vocabularies

    • We have had some amazing success in using this approach.

    The SoundPOD is a wearable AAC speaker system that can wirelessly connect to an iPad via Bluetooth. It can be worn on a breakaway neck lanyard that uses a single handed quick-release. When removed from the lanyard the SoundPOD can magnetically attach to the iPod or iPad to create an all-in-one solution.

    The SoundPOD can be purchased as a stand alone product or as part of an iPad AAC package.

    Gail Horner and Nash College have been the most recent supporters of our scheme, working at Maison de Benediction in Haiti. As you can see from the photos, the staff have been trained and the device is being used by the children that attend the centre. Several of the children were originally abandoned at the local government hospital – probably due to their disability and their parents’ inability to care for them and because of the stigma attached to disability in Haiti. When they are brought to the Maison de Benediction, they are found a foster family to look after them, who are given financial help and support from the project.

    The appeal website www.haitihospitalappeal.org has a section on the Children’s Home and lots of other information about what they are trying to do to change attitudes about disability in Haiti.
