PowerBox 7

The PowerBox 7 runs the award-winning communication program, The Grid 2, from Sensory Software.

The Grid 2

The Grid 2 enables you to communicate through symbols or text. A variety of ready made ‘Grid Sets’ are available (such as IDV, Star Talker and WordPower) that cater for all ages and abilities as well as different methods of access.

The high quality speech engine Acapela is included with the software, which provides a wide range of voices in many languages. Many voices are also available through other test-to-speech engines, including regional accents.

The Widget Literacy Symbol library is included with The Grid 2, while PCS, Makaton, SymbolStix and Bliss are also available.

The Grid 2 features a number of built in workspaces:
- Email
- SMS
- Fully accessible web browser
- Skype chat and phone calls
- Much more!

All the workspaces are included in the software and you can make your own in the editor. Each workspace is fully accessible with any input method and features much bigger targets than standard mainstream software. The workspaces are also available to symbol users.

For those who need the full power of mainstream software, The Grid 2 can be used to control standard Windows programs with the powerful on-screen keyboard and computer control features.

Inside the Box

The PowerBox 7 computer is protected against knocks by the silicone cover that is available in a variety of colours.

The covers can easily be removed to gain access the connectors on the computer itself, but this is rarely needed as additional connections are provided on the back of the PowerBox 7.

The PowerBox 7 includes an additional battery to extend the life of the computer giving 5 to 6 hours of continuous use. The device can be left on stand-by for up to 200 hours and can be 'woken up' in just 2 seconds. A wheelchair power adaptor is also available.

The sound system is loud and clear, useable for both speech and multimedia playback. In addition, there is a special headphone socket for auditory feedback.

Infra red environment control is included as standard, with Z-Wave radio control as an option. Z-Wave allows a wide range of inexpensive home automation products such as mains switches, to be controlled.

Internal USB connections allow additional environment control, mobile broadband or a GSM connection for text messaging to be permanently mounted inside the case.

The multi function wheelchair mounting bracket can be used with a Daessy, Rehadapt or VESA mounting system. An alternative mounting bracket can be fitted if required. A fold out stainless steel leg is also included for use on a table.

Wireless internet connection comes as standard on all PowerBox 7 communication aids. A 3G modem is also available for users to wishing to access the internet when they are out and about - simply insert your SIM card!

Access options

Eye gaze: The PowerBox 7 works with the TM4, Alea and LC Eyegaze Edge. A customised bracket positions them below the device. One advantage of using a PowerBox 7 with an eyegaze add-on is that you can also use the camera with alternative monitors and computers.

Customised key-guards are available for the PowerBox 7 to help with direct access.

All USB pointing devices work with the PowerBox 7. The SmartNav Pro is a popular alternative to eyegaze for PowerBox users and a customised mount is available to position the tracker above the screen.
