Speak and Sign is an award winning Grid Set for children who are deaf and also have physical difficulties. Once a sentence is constructed in Speak and Sign, it will be played back by a series of pre-recorded British Sign Language (BSL) videos. This gives users the chance to communicate with their deaf peers.
The gird set is split into topic grids that each includes five pop-up grids for core words. There are no cells for small words, such as “a”, “is” and “the”, because BSL uses only the key words of a sentence. Speak and Sign was awarded the Sternberg Award for Clinical Innovation 2007 from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
